The Offshore 40 is a proven blue water design. It is reported that Cheoy Lee Shipyard impressed by the Philip Rhodes designed Rhodes Reliant flipped the deck plan and layout over a mirror image, modified the rudder, cut a foot off the overall length and marketed the Offshore 40 as its own design.
About 160 were built through 1976. The Offshore 4-0 has an elegant sheer line, tracks well especially under "Jib and Jigger" alone. In windy conditions she scoots along at 6kts-7.5kts.
